Explore The Central Corridor Of Mongolia Grand Tour
tour overview
For an insight into some of Mongolian's most famous and exciting sites, this classic holiday will be a perfect choice.
Kharakhorum is Mongolian ancient capital city and was founded in 1220 in Orkhon Valley. As strategically, it was positioned at the crossroads of the Silk Road. It was from there that the Mongol Empire governed, until Khubilai Khaan moved it to Beijing. As historically, it was initiated by Chingis Kaan and started to build in 1220 and his son Ogedei Khaan completed it. But it was served a capital city of Mongolian Empire only 40 years. Today the symbolic ruins of the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia Erdene Zuu left which was built on the ground of the Kharakhorum in 1586. Interesting historical fact is in 1253 the French sculptor Guillaume Bouchier designed and built the most famous fountain in the city. The fountain was in the shape of a huge silver tree, which simultaneously dispensed mare's milk from silver lion's heads, and wine, rice wine from four golden spouts shaped. On top of the tree was an angel. Also there were many craftsmen and traders brought back to the city from all over conquered states and as democratic rule, both Mongolians and foreigners were legally equal right to live in the city.
Stunning natural landscapes and friendly nomadic people - this really is the essence of Mongolia.
